First stop, Annecy

Monday, 12 June 2017

So far France is proving to be an evolving postcard.

Our first stop on a 3 week road trip was Annecy. A town famous for it's stunning lake and towering snow capped mountains, Annecy really is a quite the pretty picture.

Lake Annecy is stunning. The water is crystal clear, they say it's clean enough to drink - apparently the water is simply snow melting straight off the Alps. On a warm Spring day there are boats aplenty, people lining it's shores participating in all manner of outdoor activities, kids playing ball with their parents and even groups of teenagers singing kumbayah (I kid you not!). Oh, and let's not forget the rollerbladers, who rollerblades?! I feel like this town did not move past the 90's.

The old town is fantastic with several canals running through it, and a very Swiss feel to it. Lots of great restaurants, food market, and a few parks for E dotted on the corners. And of course a petit-train to take us around the lake for some photos.

Our hotel had a terrific view of the lake and back toward the old town. Nice of them to upgrade us on French Mother's Day! Their website says you can walk down to the old town in 15 minutes. The guy at the front desk says 20-25 minutes, and it is through the forest. No signs, no path, just thick dense forest and a keen ear for any would-be attackers! Did he not see the 2 year old attached to my hip when we asked? All good fun though, I guess.

Well worth the visit. From Annecy we head north to Burgundy, Beaune and it's wine awaits.

A xx
