With one night to fill and not much of a clue where to spend it, we turned to Google Maps and looked for a town between Beaune and Paris that had it's name in Bold, suggesting it's existence was worth knowing. Up came Fontainebleau. Click on Images. Done, lets go there.
Their Chateau runs second to that of the over crowded Versailles. The town centre was small, but sufficient. A few hotels, a few restaurants, bars, and another bloody carousel - this one right out the front of our hotel. These carousels, as charming as they are, cost us 2€50 a turn. I kid you not, we have done at least 30 of them, with the AUD at 70-ish cents - this is fast becoming our most expensive obstacle.
"That was their last ride"
"This one is only for the big kids"
"It's too hot/cold/nice to do that today"
Despite what we think are genius diversion strategies, we are still well behind on our investment. Especially when many of them sell ice cream too.
The Chateau was terrific, amazing history, Kings, Queens, Emperors and Empresses have ruled from here. The rather tiny Napoleon resided here for some time. Cool to see the gift shop selling life size replicas of his horsey.
From here Paris. Allez!!
