A great little town, we were thrilled to be back there after first visiting in 2013. We loved it then and again this time - albeit for different reasons with a toddler-in-tow.
Long dinners have changed to long lunches, not too hard a compromise when E is still gifting us 2 hour sleeps at noon. We took the chance to stock (Hey Mel!!) up on wine for the summer ahead, an easy task when every third shop in town is a Wine Cave.
Our largest purchase came after a terrific wine tour into the caves under the old town. We took it on at nap time, E in the pram. Down 30+ stairs, in and out of tunnels, sampling reds and whites. Cudos to the person who came up with the idea of unsupervised 'free pour' on the wine tour. Without doubt their best sales tactic!
The 3 days we had in Beaune were spent talking about, tasting, and buying wine. What a stop! Oh and looking at vineyards to pay respect to the process that happens before it is served chilled.
It isn't often I'll have a glass of red on a 28 degree day, but when you are having a beef bourguignon for lunch there are certain rules that must be followed.
