Eating all the bread. Drinking all the wine!

Wednesday, 14 June 2017

Morning starts with coffee, croissants, baguettes and freshly pressed orange juice. I find it hard to not eat what is in front of me, and so have gained a few kilos in bread alone since leaving home. Elliot is also going through a bit of a growth spurt, but his is more in height, not width!

Beaune's most famous monument is the Hospices de Beaune, a hospital built for the poor in the 15th century. It became known as the "Palace of the Poor" - with it's beautiful roof covered in multi coloured glazed tiles only visible from within the interior courtyard, to the decorative chapel, fancy dormitories and tapestries it really is a stunning place.

The rest of the town is so pretty - the buildings, churches, shop fronts, and cobble stone streets had me stopping constantly and whipping out my iPhone for a photo. We certainly clocked up some steps exploring this town, probably a good thing with the rich food and copious amounts of wine we have been consuming.

And Parc de la Bouzaize which we spent the afternoon strolling would have to be high on our favourite parks in France to date (and we've been to a few).

And of course, no day in Burgundy is complete without a glass of 'Kir', the classic french cocktail of crème de cassis (blackcurrant liquor) topped up with white wine. Delicious!

A xx
